Finding Humor In Design

Every profession has those moments where you become overstressed by the work. When building websites, I have to switch between browsers like Internet Explorer and Firefox to make sure everything shows up correctly and there are no glitches. Later I think I’ll rant about Internet Explorer, but for this post, I’ll stay on topic. Sometimes stress can be caused by a misunderstanding between a professional and client. Here’s an example of some of the stories travel agents have to tell:

A woman called to make reservations, “I want to go from Chicago to Hippopotamus, New York” The agent was at a loss for words. Finally, the agent: “Are you sure that’s the name of the town?” “Yes, what flights do you have?” replied the customer. After some searching, the agent came back with, “I’m sorry, ma’am, I’ve looked up every airport code in the country and can’t find a Hippopotamus anywhere.” The customer retorted, “Oh don’t be silly. Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!” The agent scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, “You don’t mean Buffalo, do you?” “That’s it! I knew it was a big animal!”

As a professional, the best way I’ve found to dealing his stressful times, is finding what exactly is negative about the situation and making it comical. In the end, life to short to let the stress get to you, not to mention too much stress is unhealthy. Even as a normal person, always live life by finding the brighter side of whatever you’re dealing with in your life.

Here’s a comic to cheer up my fellows designers!
